A couple who was married for 62 years and completely inseparable die within just hours of one another. This is quite possibly the saddest and also most heart-warming story you will ever read.
Don and Maxine Simpson are the couple in question. Married for over 6 decades, their children say that they were inseparable and had a love for one another like no one else did.
The couple met at a bowling alley in Bakersfield, California and were married a few years later. They spent their lives travelling the globe and adopted two boys in the process.
“All Don wanted was to be with his beautiful wife,” their granddaughter Melissa Sloan told ABC-affiliate KERO-TV. “He adored my grandmother, loved her to the end of the earth.”
A few weeks ago, Don fell and broke his hip. After being taken to the hospital, his health was quickly deteriorating. His wife Maxine had been battling with cancer, and at the same time she too, started to get worse.
“I told my sister on the phone, we got one shot to get them together,” Sloan said.
The family then decided to move the couple so that they would be together
“We kept them together, and had their beds side by side.Gram woke up and saw him and held hands, and they knew that they were next to each other.I knew in my heart this is what’s supposed to happen. Grandma and grandpa are supposed to be together, and grandma and grandpa are going to die together.”
She heard her grandmother take her last breath. After removing Maxine’s body from the room, she returned to find her grandfather, Don, had also stopped breathing.”
“He left with her, and they passed four hours apart from each other,” Sloan added.
“They left this world together.
“It’s just amazing. It really is amazing. It’s a true love story.”
